Dragons captain Kelly Fillingham,s rousing pre-match talk inspired the required passion and determination for the whole 70 minutes of the match .Experienced players led by example helping new squad members believe in themselves and totally dominate the match against Berwick.
Four minutes into the game Sowerby fired home a short corner that stunned the opposition and minutes later delivered a pinpointed pass to release Nicky Turner for a text book one on one finish with the goal keeper-resulting in a well taken goal.
Strong midfield play from Alice Cowdell ,player of the match, and Laura Benson ensured repeated attacking drives in which numerous chances were created by the forwards Sarah Blackburn , Michelle Dexter and Helen Hough.
Sowerby sealed the fate of Berwick by snatching the advantage ball from a foul on Helen Hough , deftly dodging the last defenders with a low hard shot into the corner of the goal.
Berwick then faced an onslaught from a Dragons forward line riddled with self belief, peppering the goal mouth with shots, culminating in a penalty stroke competently despatched by Sowerby and a well taken close range shot by Alice Cowdell.
