Hope you've all enjoyed your summer.
If i'm writing on here it must be that time of year again when we turn our attention to the upcoming hockey season, I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon for pre-season and hope you've all made it through the summer injury free!
First off I have some very important dates for your diary.....
- Tuesday 2nd september = training starts 7-9pm for everyone
- Sunday 7th september = The elite cup
- Saturday 13th september = 3-5pm club day, 6pm evening meal at grappolos, please confirm
attendance at meal asap so I can book numbers. I'm expecting
everybody there. - Sunday 14th september = the yvonne horner tournament, Blackburn
- Saturday 20th september = Friendly fixture 12pm lockwood, opposition to be confirmed.
- Saturday 27th september = league starts (fixtures can be found on the website)
If any of you can't make any of the above dates please get in touch asap. Somewhere in between all this I'm going to try and fit in a first team social night - if anybody has any ideas for this, or if there are definite dates you can't make please let me know.
UPDATES:
We have a new coach, Kaya has moved on to coach at a club in sheffield, completely down to logistical reasons, she wanted me to tell you all that she enjoyed coaching at lockwood last season and she wishes us all the best for this season.
Andy Jackson will be our new coach and he is very much looking forward to getting stuck in during the pre-season. Some of you will be fimiliar with Andy but for those of you that aren't he has previously coached huddersfield men and comes across to the women because he is looking to complete his level 3 coaching qualification this year, (to do that he needs to coach at a higher level than the men are currently at).
We'll find Andy a very different coach to Kaya, he's going to demand complete commitment from all of us, and also has very high expectations on and off the field, but I believe he'll bring a much needed professional edge to the first team, and can help us complete the journey to a top 3 side. One thing Andy has asked me to enforce for the season is that all players turn up to training and matches, have basic equipment of water, gumshield and shin pads, and he also requires an emergency contact for each of us. Please can you email me your emergency contact before training begins.
Andy has also asked me to encourage you all to watch the olympic hockey and make notes for us to share the first training session back, for example, how short corners are played, or a skill/technique that you would like to understand better. I'm told those of you that don't do this will receive a 20 laps of the pitch penalty (only kidding!) You can watch replays on the England Hockey website.
I know this is a lot to take in but I hope you are all looking forward to the start of the season as much as I am. I think we have an excellent group of players this season, one or two new faces that will freshen up the squad, plue the indespensible experienced players we already have - I think this season may be our best yet!

See you all soon
