Lockwood Park Dragons 3 vs 6 Didsbury Greys

On a day like today most people would look out the window at the weather and decide to stay in and keep warm and dry, but not Lockwood Ladies they came out in the wet cold weather to play the game they love, even supporters came out to cheer them on.

Only five minutes gone and Didsbury Greys took the lead, after taking the lead Didsbury continued to pile on the pressure but Lockwood defence held tight and forced Didsbury back into their half. Lockwood won a short corner and equalised with an ariel shot from Amanda Sowerby.

Didsbury came back at Lockwood trying to find their second of the game but Rebecca Vernon (GK) managed to keep them at bay. Didsbury’s second came though after a long battle of corners and hard defending by Lockwood. Lockwood tried to catch Didsbury on the break and go for an equaliser, but speed and skill helped Didsbury win back the possession and keep the upper hand. Smeaton, Benson & Crossland made Didsbury work for it though by keeping the ball between them and making the opposition chase.

After a long period of end to end play Didsbury got their third of the game. Not long after scoring their third, Didsbury went for their fourth but Laura Benson intercepted and ended their hopes of making it 1-4 before the break.

Second half and Lockwood came out battling and let Didsbury know they weren’t going to roll over and give them the game. It wasn’t long into the start of the half that Lockwood got their second with Liz Green scoring. End to end play was the contents of the second half with Lockwood really battling to come back and try and get something out of the game, Sowerby put a great ball into the D but sadly no-one got their stick on the end of it. Lockwood spent long periods of time in the Didsbury half piling on the pressure but it wasn’t to be Lockwood’s day as Didsbury caught Lockwood on the break and scored their fourth of the game then soon after their fifth, Lockwood hadn’t given up however and with some great team passing Green found the goal for a second time to make it 3-5 to Didsbury. With only a few minutes left Didsbury ended the game by scoring their sixth leaving Lockwood wet, cold and heads down after a 3-6 defeat. However they shouldn’t keep their heads down for long as they all battled hard and definitely played well in horrible conditions.
