Match Report - Lockwood 1's 24/11/07 Lockwood Park Dragons 0 vs 1 Driffield 5th place Lockwood played host to 6th place Driffield this Saturday in a game where 3 points could altar either teams positioning. Strong from the outset Lockwood Park dominated almost the entire first half, with excellent attacking play throughout the whole team. Midway through the Dragons almost scored with Dexter and Blackburn tirelessly trying to put the ball in the net in a scramble which was to see a Driffield defender use her shoulder to stop the ball from crossing the goal line - a move that should have proved costly as the umpire awarded Lockwood a penalty flick. Amanda Sowerby stepped up for the flick, and changing her mind at the last minute allowed the keeper to make a rare save from the penalty spot. Undeterred the Dragons fought on, and 5 minutes later won a short corner that saw Blackburn score from the top of the D, an almighty shot that rattled the backboard - but was disallowed by the umpire for its height. The second half brought more of the same, and the pressure was starting to tell on Driffield as Lockwood once again tried to break them down. The Dragons tried every combination, swtiching the play and utilising the defence as the first wave of attack with slick play from Benson, Crossland, Cowdell and Armitage, and excellent running on the wings from Maddaford and Hough. 10 minutes to go and Driffield broke in their one and only chance to put Driffield ahead. A game where the final score makes no reflection on the game played, and ironically a win for Lockwood would have placed them 2nd in the league table. Team: Vernon, Crossland, Cowdell, Armitage, Benson, Fillingham (c), Sowerby, Hargreaves, Blackburn, Hough, Dexter, Maddaford |
