Match Report - Lockwood 1's
LOCKWOOD 2 vs 1 FORMBY
Last home game of the season, and Lockwood face Formby. The last time these two met back in December Lockwood suffered a 3-1 loss. They had a point to prove not only to Formby today but also to themselves after a defeat last week.
Five minutes into the first half and Formby won a Short Corner and took the lead with the first goal of the game. It did not take long for Lockwood to also see themselves on the score sheet, Lockwood won a Short Corner and Amanda Sowerby equalised to put them back in contention for all three points. The game very much end to end with Formby seeming slightly more threatening in front of goal, however some superb defending and a hard fast ball down the wing saw Sarah Blackburn score Lockwoods second goal of the game to put them into the lead. Both teams battled continuously to score another before the break, Benson keeping Formby at bay defending hard.
The second half was very much the same with plenty more short corners; Lockwood won the first short corner of the second half but failed to put themselves further in front. Blackburn was a constant threat to the Formby defence but no goals were to come from the pressure. Back and forward both teams went both constantly threatening to score, some great saves from the Formby Goal Keeper kept Lockwood from scoring their third of the game, Lockwood began to dominate with ten minutes left of the game, and Formby almost scored an undeserved equaliser, however the game seemed set to see Lockwood win 2-1. Even a stream of 3 short corners in the dying few minutes could not give Lockwood their third. Final score, 2-1 to Lockwood Park Dragons.
