Issue 3 | August 2008 NEWSLETTER Training is Back Training starts in earnest next week - Tuesday 2nd September with a new time slot of 7pm - 9pm for all players. You may be aware that Kaya has moved to a new club in Sheffield - Sheffield Bankers, a club that is much closer to home and one she has strong links already with. I'm sure many of you wish her well, as she also wishes Lockwood success in the forthcoming season. So with a farewell to Kaya we say hello to our new coach, Mr Andy Jackson. Andy joins Lockwood from Huddersfield Men and is currently undertaking his level 3 coaching qualification. The move from the men to the women is in part due to his need to coach a team playing at a higher level than the men can currently offer, though he will be keeping some ties, training the mens 1st team 9pm - 10pm on a Tuesday night. Subs & Match Fees It is with regret that the subscriptions and match fees for the new season have been increased. This is a decision that has not been taken lightly by the committee, but a review of the clubs finances and the increase in costs from our suppliers (league entry fees, pitch hire, teas, insurance etc.) has resulted in the following changes for 2008/09: Adult Subs - £110 U21 & Student Subs - £75
One problem that captains had last year was getting players to pay their subs on time, and therefore this year, a £25 late payment fee will be added to any player who has not paid by the 14th October 2008. Obviously we do not want to charge anybody this - so please pay on time and we won't hassle you! Further details will be distributed shortly, including an option to pay by standing order. Match Fees have also been affected, and for the 2008/09 season will be as follows: The 1st team fees are higher to cover the additional cost of Andy Jackson who will be travelling with the team to all matches. Fundraising / Socials The flipside of raising subs and match fees is fundraising and social events. Last season the club didn't really undertake any fundraising activities, and this is one of the reasons why subs and fees have increased this year. Helen Hough is planning some great activities this season, but they need the support of all our members. If everybody gets involved then not only will the socials be great fun, but the club will be able to raise some funds - the knock on being subs don't rise ;)
Code of Conduct The Code of Conduct has been reviewed for the new season and there is one update to inform you all about: "The penalty for a red card will be at least the cost of the clubs administrative fees, as well the actions taken as detailed in the disciplinary procedures (see page 40 of YHA handbook) . Our club’s committee will review what additional action should be taken. The fine for a yellow card is £10 with the option to appeal to the committee. The fine for a green card is £3.50 with the option to appeal to the team captain." Club Merger At the AGM in April 2008, the club voted to look towards a merger with Huddersfield Mens Hockey Club for the season 2009/10. Discussions are now underway and monthly meetings are taking place. In order to keep everybody involved there is a new page on the website with further information, including a contact form for any issues or suggestions that you would like to put forward. We are currently working towards a timetable of presenting a merger proposal to both clubs towards the end of January 2009, when a final decision will be taken. Club Physio Claire Davidson (aka Irish) will be working with the club in a sports therapy role, hopefully helping us to prevent injuries, as opposed to curing them!! Claire also has a new page on the website and will be adding lot's of useful prevention techniques here. Volunteers Needed We are hosting a series of school tournaments on the following dates and need at least 2 players to volunteer to help for each session. If you are free please could you help, there are lot's who are unable due to work committments, but helping out here might save you a 5am car boot later in the year?! 18th September, 4pm - 6pm 25th September, 4pm - 6pm 2nd October, 4pm - 6pm 9th October, 4pm - 6pm 16th October, 4pm - 6pm
