Sarah Blackburn
Sarah is a 19 year old Midfielder for Lockwood Park Dragons. She has been playing hockey for six years and her previous clubs include Halifax Ladies 1st team from 2003-2005 and Bradford Ladies 1st team from 2005-2007. Sarah has been part of the Lockwood set up since leaving Bradford in 2007.
Sarah says her team mates would describe her as spirited, determined and talented. If you are thinking about joining Lockwood Park Dragons Sarah would give the advice that “It’s a club moving forwards, with youngsters always moving up through the teams. There’s a mix of talent and levels for every player, every team is always looking to improve, and create a better social/team atmosphere.”
When asked about benefits of playing hockey Sarah said that Fitness was a key issue for her. “Playing hockey really sets me up for the week ahead, like a little booster; it’s always something to look forward to. Also the competitive edge is a great way to let off steam.”
If you didn’t play hockey then what would you do instead, “I would probably play some other sport like netball. If I didn’t play any sport at all I would go out a lot more and do some more hours at work and maybe concentrate more on my studies. I love playing hockey too much though.”
When playing hockey it makes Sarah feel “Great! Its great beating someone with a bit of skill, and when the team gels and the opposition gets thrashed. I enjoy training the most though; doing bits and bobs you would not ordinarily do in matches.”
